Ferarri Monza Sports 1955
Auto Costuzione Ferarri, Italy
This ex-Ken Wharton Monza was nearly written off in a 1957 crash when racing in the NZ Grand Prix at Ardmore. It was rebuilt with a Corvette motor (since removed).
4 cylinders, 103 mm bore, 90 mm stroke, 3000 cc, dohc, dual battery ignition, 5-speed gearbox, de Dion rear end, Scaglietti body.
 
Fiat Model Zero Tipo 51 1914
Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino, Italy
The industrial giant, Fiat, is involved in such things as shipbuilding, aero engines, ball bearings, aircraft and railway rolling stock. This Tipo 51 was the smallest of the Fiat range just prior to World War I. Only 2000 Zero's were built during 1912-1915.
4 cylinders, 70 mm bore, 120 mm stroke, 1847 cc, 12.1 hp (16 bhp at 2400 rpm). Price when new ?460.
 
FN Roadster 1914
Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre, Belgium
The FN was made by Belgium's oldest and biggest car manufacturer, which also made magnificently engineered shaft-driven motorcycles. The company is also famous for the FN semi-automatic rifle. Car production ceased in 1939, though production of motorcycles and trucks continued. FN cars were originally imported to New Zealand as rental cars and were very popular because of their extremely quiet motor.
18 hp, 4 cylinders, 85 mm bore, 120 mm stroke, 2714 cc.
 
Ford 10 1937
Ford Motor Co, England
This English Ford 10 was first introduced in 1935 as the Model C 10 with a 1172cc engine, and soon supplanted the Austin 7 as the favourite car on British roads. This exhibit was sold by John W Andrew & Sons of Auckland in 1937 for ?245 to the original owner Mr T A Sargent, who sold the vehicle back to Andrews in 1979. The car was then restored by the company's apprentices and donated to the museum.
4 cylinders, stainless steel valves, 63.6 mm bore, 92.56 mm stroke, 1172 cc.
 
Ford Anglia 100E 1958
Ford Motor Co, England.
Unitary body with McPherson front suspension and semi-elliptical springs at the rear, utilising a redesigned 1935 engine. Between 1954 and 1959 100,544 of this model were produced.
4 cylinders, 1172 cc side valve, three speed gearbox.
 
Ford Anglia 105E 1965
Ford Motor Co, England.
The Anglia name dates back to the late 1930s but this model with its forward sloping rear window was introduced in1960. It featured a four speed gearbox for the first time and the ultra-oversquare engine introduced engine speeds of 5500 rpm and higher.
997cc, 4 cylinders, 80.96 mm bore, 48.4 mm stroke engine, four speed transmission.
 
Ford Cortina Mk 1 GT 1963

One of the great motoring successes of the 1960s, the Ford Cortina began its long production run in 1962 with the introduction of the Mk1 in three body styles and four different engine options. The GT came with a factory production 1498 cc sports engine. Lotus also produced a higher performance 1558 cc version. This exhibit was driven by Kerry Grant and Frank Hamlin in the six-hour 1963 Benson and Hedges 500. In the four-day running-in period prior to the race this car covered 4,800 miles.
4 cylinders, ohv, 1498 cc. Twin carbs, free-flow exhaust.
 
Ford Custom Ranch Wagon 1956
Ford Motor Co, USA
One of the first Lifeguard design safety cars from Ford, featuring such things as padded dashboard and sun visor areas, impact absorbing steering wheel, safety door latches and seat belts. A classic American family station wagon of the 1950s, the Ranch Wagon was popular because of its large passenger and luggage space. Donated by the family of the late Mr Jack Underwood.
Y8 (not V8), ohv, 92 mm bore, 85 mm stroke, 1520 cc (176 bhp at 4400 rpm).
 
Ford Fairlane Saloon 1979

A 302/2H model Fairlane, imported built up from Australia. These models came standard as 4.9 ltr V8's. This vehicle has been fitted to run on LPG. Donated by the late Mr Henry M Hartnell of Auckland.
4.9 ltr, V8 engine. Three speed automatic.
 
Ford Falcon Futura 1965

This exhibit is in pristine original condition. Ford began producing cars in Australia in 1925, and although early production was based on American models, by the late 1950s Ford Australia began developing their own models. Donated by Mrs H G Robinson of Lower Hutt.
6 cylinders, ohv, 200 cu in.
 
Ford Model A Roadster 1930

Details of this two-seater Roadster are similar to the Model A Tourer but this exhibit features a slightly larger engine.
3285 cc, 4 cylinders, side valve, 98.4 mm bore, 108 mm stroke. Three speed sliding type gearbox, 4 wheel brakes.
 
Ford Model A Tourer and Sedan 1930
Ford Motor Co, Canada and USA
Identical in mechanical specification, the Model A Sedan and Tourer were the backbone of the model rated as one of the most popular cars ever built. Between 1928-32, 4.5 million were built and sold for $US450. The sedan on display was used to celebrate the production of 20 million Fords. The Model A was replaced in 1932 by the Ford V8 range.

Ford Model T 1915

The car that started it all. This exhibit was built in 1915, but has some pre-1926 transplants. It is in the same condition as it was when it was bought in 1955 for ?40 to become the first car in the collection. It will not be restored!
 
Ford Model T Roadster 1915

Introduced in 1909, the Model T became affectionately known as the "Tin Lizzie". In 1914-15, when sales of the Model T exceeded 300,000, all customers were given a rebate of $US50 as a sales stunt devised by Henry Ford himself.
4 cylinders, 95.2 mm bore, 101.6 mm stroke, 2893 cc, rated at 20 hp, planetary gears. Top speed, 70 km/h. Price when new, $US650.
 
Ford Model T Sedan 1926

From 1914-1925 Model T's were available only in black. However in 1926 Ford built them in a variety of colours, earning this model the nickname "New Beauty". Although over 1 million Model T's were made between 1923-1926, competition from Chevrolet forced Ford to develop other models, and the famous Model T went out of production in June 1927. Although the Model T cost $US850 when first introduced in 1909, by 1925 Ford had reduced this to $US260 for a basic model. This was the first vehicle restored by Len Southward.
4 cylinders, side valve, 96 mm bore, 101.6 mm stroke, 2894 cc, 2-speed gearbox.
 
Ford Model T Tourer 1920

The 1920 Tourer enjoys the same mechanical features as the Roadster but this exhibit has an electric starter.
 
Ford Prefect 1952

Originally produced in 1939, the Prefect was only available as a four door model post World War II. A hugely popular model of which 380,000 were made. Donated by Mr Bill Benson of Levin.
4 cylinders, 1172 cc side valve engine, 10 hp.
 
Ford T Bucket Hot Rod 1987
This Chevrolet V8 powered hot rod was designed and built by the late Gavin Norris, who christened it "Bloodshot". Two years in the making, this spectacular hot rod features custom-built chassis and suspension and a number of imported vintage Ford parts and is a real credit to the builder.
4-bolt 350 Chevrolet V8, bored.030, twin 465 Holley carbs and Weland tunnel ram, 9 inch Ford diff.
