Lagonda V12 Open Tourer 1939
Lagonda Motors, England
W O Bentley was given the task to design a car that possessed a top gear speed-range far lower at one end of the scale and vastly higher at the other, than any existing car. The car was to go from no more than 5 km/h (3 mph) to 170 km/h (110 mph) in absolute silence and without vibration from the engine! This V12 Lagonda was his answer, and it is regarded as one of the classic cars of all time. This particular exhibit, with a body by Hooper, was custom made specially for Mr Sydney Peek (of Peek Freen Biscuits) and has only travelled 56,000 kms since new.
12 cylinders in two 6 cylinder banks at 600 , ohv, 75 mm bore, 84.5 mm stroke, 4480 cc, 41.85 hp (180 bhp at 5500 rpm), twin SU carburettors, dual coil ignition. Price ?1575.
