Velocette Model LE 1956
Veloce Ltd, England
A very popular motorcycle with distinctive styling, the LE was used extensively by the British Police in round-town traffic duties. A remarkably quiet and reliable vehicle.
Water cooled flat twin, 192 cc, three speed gearbox, shaft drive. Price, ?173.
 
Vespa
By the 1960's the name "Vespa"? was synonymous with scooters worldwide. Produced by Piaggio in Italy since 1946, the name "Vespa"? derives its name from the wasp-like buzz of its engine - the Italian for wasp being vespa - and made all the more famous by the 1953 movie "Roman Holiday"? which had stars Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck buzzing around the streets of Rome on a Vespa scooter.

The Italian Vespa Company will forever be linked with its scooters and mopeds. Vespa's scooters have survived countless fashion trends, and were once so popular that they were made in the UK under license.
 
Vicky Victoria M51 1956, Germany
One of the oldest manufacturers of motorcycles in Germany, Victoria made a wide range - from 600 cc vertical twins to 38 cc mopeds. This Vicky model was popular in Germany and Holland with a 47 cc, two-stroke, single-cylinder engine with1.8 bhp at 4650 rpm and ran at an economical 180 mpg at 30 mph.
 
Vincent Black Shadow 1953
Vincent Engineers Ltd, England
One of England's most famous motorcycles from the excellent team of Vincent, which also produced the Rapide, Black Knight and Black Lightning.
V-twin with high camshaft, 84 mm bore, 90 mm stroke, 998 cc, (55 bhp at 5800 rpm). Price ?390.
